Downtown Rutherfordton Senior Session: Mackenzie

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t fighting back tears writing this blog post today.  This senior session, in downtown Rutherfordton, is closest to my heart and one I will cherish for a lifetime.

I have known sweet Mackenzie since she was a toddler and consider her my niece.  I have watched her grow into a smart, beautiful, funny, and strong woman who is an inspiration to everyone around her.  She excels in everything she does and it has truly been a blessing to be a part of her life.

Of all the hundreds of memories I have with Mackenzie, there is one in particular that stands out the most.

Mackenzie was the flower girl at my wedding (she was 8 years old at the time) and was there by my side every moment of the day.  When the reception started, I quietly mentioned to someone that my feet were killing me from my heels and Mackenzie must have been close by and heard me because moments later she tugged on my dress and had my flips flops in hand!  I remember that moment like it was yesterday!  It may not seem like much of a memory to you, but it was amazing to me because it showed what a kind and thoughtful person she was at such a young age.  I STILL have those yellow Rainbow flip flops!

Mackenzie has such a kind and loving spirit and I can’t wait to watch her journey from here!  She will be graduating with honors from Isothermal’s REACH program in just a couple of weeks and I’m already an emotional wreck!  I’m pretty sure her mom and I will just go off to college with her!  🙂

My Dearest Mackenzie,

I wish you the strength to face challenges with confidence, along with the wisdom to choose your battles carefully.  I wish you adventure on your journey and may you always stop to help someone along the way.  Listen to your heart and take risks carefully.  Remember how much you are loved – I am SO proud of you!!

XOXO,
